I have been active in the building industry for
more than 30 years, holding leadership roles in marketing, business
development, design, project management, and operations for firms in
design and engineering consulting, contracting, and manufacturing,
spanning a single office to over 20 branches, and generating $2M to
$200M in annual revenue. I have provided technology planning
and design on over 500 projects, worldwide.
My success in marketing, business development,
and communications has resulted in expanded markets, new services,
significant revenue growth, and the creation of a proactive
marketing culture for all of the firms where I have served. My
philosophy is based on providing rapid, responsive, and relevant
communication that allows clients and potential customers to
recognize value and receive high quality service.
I hold a BS in Architecture from
California State
Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, and have completed
continued education programs at
New York University
in Microprocessor Technology and the Advanced Management Institute
in San Francisco in Leadership.
I am a Fellow and past national president of the
Society for Marketing Professional
Services (SMPS). I have been honored by SMPS by being named a
Chapter President of the Year, a Distinguished Life Member, and by
receiving their highest individual honor, the Weld Coxe Marketing Achievement
Award for my career accomplishments, and by the
SMPS San
Francisco/Bay Area Chapter with the William B. Hankinson Award for
Lifetime Achievement. |

that is required reading for the SMPS CPSM certification
program. I am a contributing author to the
Marketing Handbook for Design and Construction Professionals.
I frequently present at local, regional, and national AEC
industry programs, and write feature articles for the
SMPS
Marketer,
Systems Contractor News, and
ProAV magazines.
I am also an Associate member of the
American Institute of Architects, and active in the
Construction Writers Association,
National Systems
Contractors Association, and
InfoComm International. |

Acknowledgements: None of the accomplishments in my career
would have been possible without the teaching and encouragement I
received from some of the technology industry's true leaders, including
Hubert Wilke ("Mr. AV," and a true marketing genius) and Robert Nissen
(the best understanding of "process" I ever met). Equally influential
are some of the late "greats" including Edwin Hodder (for his practical
and pragmatic realism), Irving Wood (the greatest sound system engineer I
have known and one of the truly "nice guys"), and Raymond Wadsworth (the
"Master" of technology-enabled communication).
The professional guidance that came
from the mentoring of Patrick Bell, Lou Marines, Bill Truby, Margaret
Spalding, Dr. Susan Harris, Kay Godwin, Ron Worth and all the SMPS Fellows cannot be underestimated.
The personal teaching and wise counsel of
Susan Shippey and Marta Monahan have been invaluable. And I count
myself fortunate for the interest and input from my closest friends:
Scott Lindsay, Jerry Siebum, Dr. Stephen Lamia, Mike Reilly, Mike Savage, and Barbara
Barry. Today,
nothing is more important to me than the support and love I receive so
unconditionally from my son, Trevor.
Finally, Bella Mia, my muse, for your wisdom
and honest, love and affection, and motivation to be more than I am, I t hank you
from my heart.
